Local Attractions in the Dandenong Ranges
The Dandenong Ranges has been part of the Melbourne social scene as early as 1900.
Visitation to the Dandenong's began as a Sunday trip for most Melbournians.
This experience soon led people into buying small allotments for weekenders, and began the birth of the renown guest house phenomena which ultimately led to the current bed and breakfast industry than is now interspersed throughout the hills.
At the turn of the century, the area became well known, if not famous for;

- National Rhododendron Gardens
Famous for its vast array of rhododendrons, azaleas, camellias, and daffodils. - Alfred Nichols Gardens
The Nicholas Family (developed the Aspro formular) donated their significant gardens to the local Government for the public to enjoy. These wonderful gardens were once part of the historic Burnham Beeches Estate.
The gardens have many significant plants including their water feature with its waterfalls, and an ornamental lake with a boathouse.
The land was purchased by the Nicholas family in 1929, and soon after constructing their own home they began purchasing neighboring properties. The Nicholas brothers became wealthy and famous for developing the pain killer we now remember as 'Aspro'.Mr Nicholas passed away before the gardens were completed but his wife who lived on the property until the Second World War donated the gardens to the local shire in 1965.

Is located in Healesville and is a famous Australian wildlife experience in a natural setting that allows the public meet and see a great number of Australias wildlife in a controlled setting.
Species include lyrebirds, wombats, platypus, koalas, emus, and the amazing eagle display. -
